GLENGOWLA CAVE
KYLEMORE ABBEY
On Monday the 16th of May we left Tralee to go to Sligo. In the morning we had a very late start. When we were ready we left Tralee and drove to Kylemore Castle. When we got there we first had some lunch. It was quite yummy. Then we went into the castle. Most of the castle wasn’t open to the public. But the little bit that we saw was quite good. There were a couple of rooms that had lots of things about the nuns because it was the nuns who used to go to the area.
Next we went down to a church. It was the church that the nuns went to. There were some really amazing stain glass windows. It was a very small church. It only had the area where the priest stands and some seats with some long red knee stands that you kneeled on to pray. After we had been in there we went and caught a little shuttle bus to some really amazing gardens. They were the oldest Victorian style walled gardens in Ireland. There were lots of really pretty flowers. There were also lots of houses and green houses. It was all under renovation so it wasn’t as pretty as it was or will be.
The house I liked the most was the master gardener’s house. It looked like I had been taken back one hundred and fifty years ago. We saw a cat that was with some gardeners who were making the garden beds look tidy.
After wandering through the amazing gardens we went back on the shuttle bus to the car. Then we left to go to Sligo. We drove for about two hours. Once we got to Sligo we went and found our hotel. Our hotel is called the Best Western Sligo Southern Hotel. Then Dad and I went looking for a pizza shop. The lady at reception told us where to go but we missed some of the things to look for, so we ended up getting subway. But when we were turning around at the bottom of the street we saw the pizza shop.
When we got back to the hotel we enjoyed our tea and went to bed. The only thing was that there was an old lady next door that probably couldn’t hear very well so she had the T.V. roaring, so Tyler and I had trouble sleeping. We still had a marvellous day. Everything was so fun.
