SLIGO
On Tuesday the 17th of May we left Sligo and headed to Derry. We woke up reasonably early. We still left very late because Tyler and I had a swim in the pool that was there. We played with some of the pool equipment. We had to wear these funny swim caps for some reason. After playing in the pool we went and packed up to go to our next destination.
DONEGAL
We ended up leaving at 12:00. When we were on the road we drove into a little town called Donegal. Tyler, Mum and I were hungry so we went to an information centre to find where we could get food and something to do. The lady that served us realised that we were Australian and showed us a mini koala soft toy thing. As a joke she asked if we had any kangaroo soft toys for her. Mum said no but we had a packet of play cards with kangaroos on the cards. We said that we would bring them into her later on. The lady showed us where to go for lunch and what we could do for the rest of the day.
We went and had lunch at a nice little restaurant called The Krusty Kitchen. The Food we had there was really yummy. Even the vegetables were yummy. After that we went and found the pack of cards that were in our suitcase and went and gave them to the lady. She was thrilled with her new pack of cards.
After that we drove up the road to a cemetery called the Donegal Abbey. It was also some ruins. We climbed around on the ruins. We also had a look at some of the gravestones. It was quite fun. After spending a while in the graveyard and the ruins we went to the Donegal Castle.
It was a very small castle. Firstly we had a look around ourselves. Then mum went for a walk while Dad, Tyler and I went on the guided tour. Tyler’s favourite fact about the castle was that there were some spiral stairs. They were called trip stairs because they were uneven. This meant that if an enemy was coming to attack and they were coming up the stairs then hopefully they weren’t looking at their feet and they would trip because the stairs were uneven. Still with the stairs, he also liked the fact that the stairs were going in a clockwise direction so this gave the people in the castle an advantage because they were mostly right handed so if they swung their sword they could get it right around. My favourite fact was that there was a bend in the toilet pipe so that if someone was on the toilet then an enemy wouldn’t be able to shoot them up the pipe.
After our tour around the castle we got back in the car, found Mum and went on to Derry. On the way Dad gave Tyler and I a quiz, about the castle. It was fun.
DERRY (Northern Ireland)
When we got to Derry we tried to find our hotel. Our hotel is called Ramada Da Vinci. Once we found it and had got everything into our room we went and had some tea from the hotel restaurant. Tea was very yummy. Again even the vegetables were yummy. After tea we came back to our room and went to bed.
We had a great day. I really liked the castle.
